A Shelley 8775 unhandled black coffee cup & saucer with silver hallmarked holder
A Shelley 8775/24 unhandled black coffee cup & saucer with silver hallmarked holder. Normally seen in pastel colours it's very unusual to find one in black! Pattern No 8775/24: Plain jet black saucer and cup exterior.
Entered into pattern book during or after 1913. The shape of this cup and saucer is the unhandled coffee.
Dimensions: diameter of cup base 39mm (1.5 inches) / diameter across top of cup 52mm (2 inches) / height of cup 54mm (2.2 inches) / diameter of saucer 114mm (4.5 inches). Condition: Both pieces are in very good clean condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. Just the odd tiny white mark / scratch on the black ground.
3 tiny black marks to the cup interior base which are under the glaze and have been there since manufacture. Both pieces have a very good true sound to them when lightly tapped. Silver hallmarked holder is also in very good condition. Please note that we are experienced packers of pottery and fine bone china, this item will securely packaged, wrapped with plenty of bubble wrap and secured with flo pack chippings to ensure it's safe arrival.
